Benefactor's Photograph 2016 | Joan Fontcuberta

Foto Colectania gives each year to its Benefactors a Special Edition of an original photograph of a recognized photographer of its Collection.

For more than four decades, Joan Fontcuberta has developed an artistic activity in the field of photography and digital imaging that has focused on the conflicts between nature, technology, photography and truth. His works are in the collections of MoMA (NY), Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY), Musée National d'Art Contemporain - Center Georges Pompidou (Paris), MACBA (Barcelona) and MNCARS (Madrid) among others. He recently published the essay The Fury of Images: Notes on Post-Photography (Galaxia Gutemberg).

Features
"Artemisa Rollana" from the series Herbarium, 1983, is a copy of silver gelatin on barite paper and tacked to selenium. The copies of this edition are signed by the author and have been validated from the original negative, at the Rebel·lab Laboratory in Barcelona in December 2016.

"Tyrannosaurus rex, 1989" from the series Animal Trouvé, is a copy of silver gelatin on Kentmere de Luxe barite paper with selenium treatment and tainted tea. The copies of this edition are signed by the author and have been validated from the original negative, at the Rebel·lab Laboratory in Barcelona in December 2016.

The edition consists of two photographs by Joan Fontcuberta of his emblematic series Animal-Trouvé and Herbarium. It has a print run of 112 photographs, of which 53 are from the photograph "Tyrannosaurus Rex, 1989" and 59 are from "Artemisa Rollana". Of these, 104 are exclusive for the Foto Colectania 2016 Members and 8 made in special edition. Each member has been able to choose between one of the two photographs.
