New live conversation with the photographers of our collection. The next one will be on Thursday, June 18 at 7pm with VARI CARAMÉS, who will have a dialogue with Pepe Font de Mora, director of Foto Colectania on our Instagram channel.
We encourage you to advance the questions you want to ask Vari through our social media.
Vari Caramés is a Galician photographer from A Coruña, the city where he currently lives and works. He is an incorrigible pursuer of chance, fleeting shadows and encounters that are only presumably fortuitous. He is self-taught and with more than three decades of dedication behind him and a highly personal work that places him among the most unique Spanish photographers of our time, he is a hunter of images "in low volume and high fidelity". He is especially interested in making something ordinary and ordinary look extraordinary.
He seeks to suggest, evoke and make the viewer dream: reality, as it is, is recalcitrant. Lover of the timeless and the indefinite. He learns how to get effects of defects. He is not interested in fashions and trends. Currently he uses black and white and color interchangeably, although until 2000 he only worked in black and white. As the author's website also highlights: "He never intended to live on photography, now he cannot live without it."
Since 1984 he has participated in more than 200 individual and group exhibitions. His work is found in various collections of institutions such as Foto Colectania, the Reina Sofía Art Center, CGAC (Santiago de Compostela), Círculo de Bellas Artes (Madrid), Alcobendas City Council Foundation, IVAM (Valencia), Study Center from Braga (Portugal) as well as in private collections in Europe and the United States. He has participated in many photography workshops and conferences as a speaker, jury and photographer.
