LIBRO is an essay on the current state of photobooks in Spain.
Despite the fact that photobooks are not the sole medium of promoting and sharing a photographic work, this format of expression has experienced an incredible growth in Spain. By showcasing the dialogue among various of the protagonists of the Spanish boom, this publication aspires to provide an insight on a series of accomplishments that have been of paramount importance to the spectacular increase in the quality and quantity of published photobooks over the last ten years.
LIBRO includes an essay on the essence of the photobook and a conversation between Horacio Fernández (independent curator and author of numerous publications on photobooks), Jon Uriarte (photographer and curator), Cristina de Middel (author of the acclaimed The Afronauts) and Eloi Gimeno, one of the leading figures in Spanish photobook design (besides his contribution in this book, Gimeno is the designer of Óscar Monzón's KARMA, winner of The Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation First Photobook Award 2013).
LIBRO has been published in the event of the exhibition "Photobooks: Here and Now", which was celebrated at the Foto Colectania Foundation in Barcelona from May 13 to July 30, 2014.
