ABOUT TXEMA SALVANS
Txema Salvans alternated biology and photography studies. He has passed through Fabrica, Italy, and the International Center of Photography in New York. He is currently one of the documentary photographers considered the most interesting in our country, for his ironic, even corrosive work, which openly shows everything that others would like to hide. It shows us the backyard of our society; the suburbs and the outskirts of urban centers are inexhaustible image spaces for him and each photograph in his series is an accurate shot in the spectator's forehead.
His latest projects include Perfect Day, The Waiting Game 1 and 2, published by RM, and My Kingdom, published by the English publisher Mack. In addition, Salvans collaborates with magazines such as Magazine from La Vanguardia , Dominical from El Períodico or El País Semanal and with other international ones such as Le Monde, New York Times, Esquire, Suddeutsche Zeitung, Stern, NZZ, Liberation, GQ, Monocle or Colores . Since 1993 he has received numerous national photographic awards; the most important ones, the first FotoPres’97 Award from La Caixa and the Photoespaña05 award for the best Spanish photography book, for the project he published in 2004, “Nice to meet you”.
ABOUT THE “THE WAITING GAME” SERIES
The Waiting Game is a photographic series that Txema Salvans made during eight years along the Spanish Mediterranean coast. It's an accurate painting about need and desire, where concept and plasticity fit perfectly.
The essence of his work lies in exploring the wide and varied palette of often surprising human behaviors and longings. In his journey, Txema photographed in its context the prostitution that is exerted on the highway: the intersections and roundabouts, the dead ends of the industrial estates, the verges; spaces that are on the fringes of everything and that serve as a scenic framework to show an activity as overexposed as prostitution. The Waiting Game is the result of a work that takes place between sociological dissection and naturalistic narration. Winning project in the Iberoamerican Photobook Contest 2012 of Editorial RM.
