OPENING DATE OF THE EXHIBTION: SEPTEMBER 15th
From his early photographic work, Txema Salvans approaches the daily happenings that shape people's daily life, as well as our surprising social behaviour.
Perfect Day is an exhaustive photographic tour across the Mediterranean coastline, from Girona to Algeciras, between 2005 and 2020. Salvans focuses here on the amazing leisure settings where we spend our free time. Throughout his typical formal and conceptual style, using irony to allow us to understand the scale of the tragedy, the author invites us to think about the stereotypes emerged from the overexploitation of our tourist coastline.
This series, published at the height of the pandemic by the British publisher MACK, summarizes in a subtle yet powerful way Salvans's career, and deepens the subject that troubles the author in his latest works: human resilience that makes us turn seemingly inhospitable spaces into places to disconnect and for personal survival.
For the past two decades, Txema Salvans (1971, Barcelona) has developed a documentary and artistic approach outside the standard photojournalist platforms, including photoessay.
Joan Fontcuberta has described his work as a “balancing critical thinking with a poetic sense of humour”. Contemporary Spanish chronicler, his projects become established working most of the time on book format. His first book Nice To Meet You (ACTAR, 2005) received the 2005 Photo España award for best photobook. The Waiting Game (RM, 2013) was awarded the best Iberoamerican Photobook (2012).
My Kingdom was published in 2018 (MACK, 2018), as well as the second part of The Waiting Game (RM, 2018). Perfect Day (MACK, 2020) is the latest project published at the height of the pandemic.
Txema Salvans' work has been published by leading international media including Le Monde, Suddeustsche Zeitung Magazine, Stern, New York Times, NZZ, Liberation, Monocle, Colors, Big Mag, Vice, Marie Claire, GQ France, Elephant, British Journal of Photography, Wallpaper, I-D Magazine, Matador and El País Semanal.
He has recently exhibited his work at numerous festivals and museums, such as the Centre d'Art Contemporani Arts Santa Mònica, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Hamburg, the Museum für Photographie Braunschweig and the Museo Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Reina Sofía.
Fundación Banco Sabadell is the main collaborator of Foto Colectania and participates in the exhibition Txema Salvans. Perfect Day.
