The exhibition "Traces" gathers a series of photographs made by three of the most resounding contemporary authors based in Spain: José Guerrero, Simona Rota and Carlos Spottorno. Despite they have distant departure points and quite different tracks, we wanted to bring together their more representative works to this new "Maridajes" edition. From distinct geographical areas, each proposal is a sample of spaces with no human presence, though they are plenty of signs that make us think about the ways we interact with our surroundings, and the traces we leave on the landscape.
From José Guerrero we present his poetic images of New York, which show a city with hidden inhabitants only seen through the profusion of the skyscraper’s lights. In Ostalgia by Simona Rota, we find vestiges of architecture promoted by former Soviet Union, developed in its 15 republics between the decades of 1960 and 1990. These pictures become a catalogue of monumental buildings which seem witnesses of epic purposes of the past, reaching the present with a sort of eroded optimism. Finally, the photographs China Western by Carlos Spottorno give us an intense tour through the Xinjiang region, in the northwest, one of the most unpopulated areas of the People’s Republic, with twenty million inhabitants over an area of more than one and a half million square kilometres.
